since the beginning of the pandemic, hate crimes against asian communities in the USA have increased by 1900%.

and in the UK, hate crimes have risen by a third toward asian people. those statistics are terrifying, and behind each one are real people and families, who i don't doubt feel vulnerable and paranoid.

its so inexplicably beyond messed up and illogical that simply because the virus originated in wuhan, the entire asian population has to face consequences that nobody deserves; the virus could have just as easily originated in the UK, USA or any other country. and i doubt that if the origin was in a majority white country, white people would be blamed for something completely out of their hands. the structures of white supremacy and whiteness that exist on an international scale are dangerous and deadly, and this is just one of their many negative manifestations.
as people, we need to recognise these implications even, and ESPECIALLY, if we benefit from them without our awareness. we have a duty to become aware. the information is all out there; there is absolutely no denying it.
