firstly, after re-reading some of my other music posts, i've clocked that analysing and explaining the meaning of songs takes away some of what i think makes them amazing. they speak for themselves (if you pay attention). so, from now on, i'm gunna try summarize the songs' stories, quote some of my fav lines and let you piece the rest together as you listen to them; again, if you pay attention, you'll get it.
ok, into overstimulated.
Trip - Jhené Aiko (album cover) |
aiko reminisces on a night where she took too many drugs and ended up overstimulated, hence the title. the switches in pace and beat represent, to me, the destability that comes about when you overestimate your limits. they go from conveying serenity, to panic. she also switches from admiring and sweet-talking the person she's with, to saying 'why would you do this to me?', further suggesting she's frightened and confused.
here are some lines that help tell her story:
- 'already high, i'll be alright, i wanna try it'
- 'crushing the line, cutting the line, crossin' the line'
- 'took it without lookin', now i'm lookin' up the side effects'
- 'aren't you the sweetest thing? i almost can't believe it. why you still sleepin' on me? that's ok you can keep dreaming'
i still haven't worked out how i'm gunna go about this new format of music posts, so any ideas any of you have will be so appreciated. i definitely wanna keep on sharing some of my fav songs with you, but the way i did it before wasn't really cutting it.
thanks for readinnnn, please drop a comment with any suggestions on the best way you think to go about carrying this on!!
